Fast Moving

I’m sure you’ve seen it before
we were friends for five minutes last summer
a month or two
of fast moving
quickly forming relationships
being assimilated into their core
drinking to holidays
in such a tiny time frame
separated by circumstance
not through angry words
or unforgiveable actions.

Of course I’m there
I’m the barmaid, the overseer
the facilitator to your frivolities
but I’m on the outside
no more 4am hide and seek games
radio shows on the television
not a thing

Pleasant exchange
a long drive home
I’m too young to understand
and in the back of my mind
I know you’ve seen it a million times
and learned to let go
