Frankenstein’s Monster

My creature didn’t turn out at all like I wanted
he’s misshapen and cruel and always beats me
to it – the punch that is
it’s alive, it’s alive, it’s alive
and kicking
and I’m frightened of his power
in all of his efforts to make me cower
from the daylight sun. I am never
going to kill this bastard
but I can beat it back
day by day
never failing to grasp what he means
when he says back.
Down.
