Being 25

I waited and I saved it
for everything, for the
safety and satiety

From a mattress I saw
the end game,
what’s to come

I know the good
that comes from crawling
from dirty knees
and free spirits
(for drinking)

I know the aging
that we don’t notice
from the back of an old car
that 25 is just 20
with time for more beer

I longed for deterioration;
for my wants to die, too
I longed to crawl inside the roof
and grow younger next to you
